| The Penny Sleuth Features: Penny Stocks, Options and High-Growth Opportunities! | | | Weekend Sleuth: Where the Market’s Headed and Another 23% Gainer This Week By Jonas Elmerraji October 31, 2009
As we approached this Halloween weekend, all the ghosts and goblins seemed to be focusing on scaring the stock market. In the last five trading days, the S&P 500 lost nearly 3% as the index gave investors the most consecutive down days in months. And while the big stocks slipped in price, small-caps took an even harder hit.
There’s been quite a bit of concern that the post-March dead-cat bounce has come to an end, and now it’s time to watch the markets tumble just like they did this time last year. But some interesting news this week suggests that things aren’t quite as bad as they might seem.
On Thursday, the country got a glimpse of the quarter’s GDP numbers. The economic growth was enough to break the market’s cold streak and push stocks up an average of 2.25%. But what most investors weren’t aware of was the fact that the news came precisely as the market intersected with its 50-day moving average — a key support level that stocks have bounced off of several times already this year.
Despite a return to the red on Friday, that strongly suggests that we could be in for another bounce to higher ground in the next month.
